17 Trends That People Over 40 Think Gen Z And Millennials Will Regret One Day

Turns out that not everything is timeless!

We all have things we did or enjoyed when we were growing up that we shake our heads about when we get older. Be it an interest, a fashion choice, or a hairstyle, there are some things better left in the past.

So we asked members of the BuzzFeed Community over the age of 40 what they think is trendy right now, but will make Gen Z cringe down the line. Here's what they think:

1. First off, before we dive into specific trends, here's a very kind comment about regret that we got: "The eldest people I have spoken to always tell me they only regret what they didn't do (being kind to themselves as youngsters is also high on the list). Do what you feel comfortable with doing and you won't regret or feel embarrassed about anything later in life. Even oversharing by other people's standards isn't regretted if the person doing it felt comfortable with it at the time. Like with kids, you remember more about how things made you feel than anything else about those things. Do whatever you want to do as long as you do no harm."

Moving on:

2. "The Dahmer style glasses. They don’t look good now, and they definitely won’t look good in 20 years when you’re looking back wondering why you wore them."

3. "Don’t fall victim to eyebrow trends. Just don’t. Clean them up ... and leave them aloneeeee."

4. "I'm ready for a new aesthetic. Everything since my generation (2000s teen) has been a regurgitation of older styles. Flares, wide legs, then the skinnies, all styles that harkened back to the 70s, 40s, and 60s."

5. "All those pictures with their tongues sticking out."

6. "Mom jeans. Again."

7. "Poorly done tattoos. I tried to convince my 18-year-old daughter to wait to get a tattoo until she had something meaningful picked out…but she got several (for free, in a dorm room) and already regrets them. I’m not much of a “told you so” mom, but we do laugh about it."

8. "Those mad designer trainers that look like a kid has drawn them, like Balenciagas. So bad."

9. "Are overlined lips still a thing? That."

10. "I’ve been online since the AOL 95 days, so it’s been a minute. The sheer amount of oversharing and lack of privacy is just…wow. Also, the emphasis on social media makes me sad."

11. "Pretty much most of their TikTok videos. Crying, bad dancing, bad singing, talking about very personal stuff, talking about some quite controversial topics without knowing facts, doing stupid, dangerous or embarrassing things to get likes, etc."

12. "Taking pictures of food for followers and likes. Please GOD tell me they will look back at their unicorn Fraps and cro-nut-sushi-wich-pasta salads and CRINGE."

13. "I’ve seen this thing where young people are holding their pants up with a shoelace tied in the back. Belts are not that expensive. Either of these makes you look like you were in a disaster and grabbed the first clothes you could find and held them together with scraps."

14. "Neon-colored hair. Too many people try it and the look isn't for everyone."

15. "The fake eyelashes that look like they are going to fly away. Some are so ridiculously big that the wearer can’t even open their eyes all the way!"

16. "Anything permanent. Bad clothes, hairstyles and makeup are just things to be laughed about in the future (I grew up in the 1980s so I should know). Think carefully about cosmetic surgery, lipfillers and any tattoos."

17. And finally, "The need to have a 'brand' and make their whole life profitable. There are some things you're supposed to enjoy, and you realize it more and more as you get older."
