Families are raising their kids in more sex-positive environments than ever before, and this is probably one of the best developments in modern parenting.
Before the approach of introducing things incrementally based on age appropriateness, many of us were subjected to an uncomfortable-AF conversation somewhere around the time our parents realized puberty had hit.
Take these stories of sex talks gone wrong as examples of how not to approach your kids about this topic.
Some parents drop one-liners that you're supposed to draw conclusions from.
1. It feels like there should be some steps in between, but...

Some parents base their talk too much on personal experience.
Then there are the parents who hold off as long as possible.
Then there are the kids who get the talk because of things way out of their control.
Even the parents who get through it okay can't guarantee their kids get the right takeaways.
12. Most kids are horrified to realize most adults they know do this.
@meganmuircoyle I told kids I babysat what it was (they already kinda knew). The youngest first asked “but... is that the ONLY way to make a baby?” (She wasnt into it 😅). Then she thought & said “wait... does that mean Mommy & Daddy...” “Dont think about it” her older sister responded🤣
13. Some are excited to share their knowledge, primarily at the exact wrong time.
@meganmuircoyle @bames_jrolin My nephew was about 7 when he got this info. At the next big holiday dinner he spontaneously stood up on his chair, flexed his biceps and loudly announced, “I am strong and healthy and full of sperm!”
Some ask follow-up questions more horrifying than the talk itself.
14. This horrified kid thought he was about to uncover a whole secret life.
@meganmuircoyle My high school history teacher told us that his kids had the same reaction but when my teacher informed them that he has “done it” many times, his kid started crying and asked him “where are the others”.... he thought he had many long lost siblings
15. This child asked a very innocent, valid question.

16. And some just straight-up don't believe you...
@meganmuircoyle One of my children literally laughed at me when I explained sex. It took several minutes to convince the kid that I wasn’t making it up. I had prepared for many reactions, but not “scornful dismissal, with points for entertaining tall tale.” 😧😑🤦🏻♀️😆
17. ...at all.
@meganmuircoyle My son (5 yrs) once asked me if it hurt when my friends baby son had exploded out of her tummy. I explained where babies came out of and my son stared at me in fury. ' He did not come out of there!' and didn't speak to me for ages just kept glaring at me in rage 🤣
