Antibiotic Resistance
People get sick every day from a variety of things, bacteria occasionally being one of them. When someone gets sick from bacteria, we prescribe antibiotics, which act in 5 main ways. They either break holes in the membrane of the bacteria, stop proteins from being made, stop DNA and RNA (instructions of the cell) from being made properly, stop the cell wall of bacteria from being repaired, or they disable metabolism in the bacteria. A small variety of compounds exist that can accomplish these actions, but bacteria are evolving resistances at terrifying speeds!
