My Friend Lost Her Hair To Alopecia And Became A Meme, So I Did A Photoshoot For Her

    ...At a Hair Salon.

This is my friend Jessica Johnson. We've been friends since Jr. High.

Jessica always had the prettiest hair. It was long, thick, and healthy.

In 2010, the mother of three started losing her hair. She says, "It started with a patch along my neckline... It was just that for a while."

In 2012 her eyelashes and eyebrows started falling out, and by July that year she only had a handful of hair left on her head. Her husband helped her shave off what was left.

Jessica spent years trying to figure out why she suddenly lost her hair. After dozens of doctor's appointments the only conclusion they could come to is that she has Alopecia areata.

She tried wearing wigs, but the Texas heat was too much. She was constantly asked if she was going through cancer treatment. Last year she decided to do something to cover her head.

She went to Amarillo tattoo artist Joe Grunow who tattooed hair on her head.

But an unflattering pic found its way onto the internet and started circulating as several different memes.

After the second meme, I thought Jessica needed to be seen for who she really is. Not some silly meme. We decided to take pictures at Paper Dollz Salon in Amarillo, and give Jessica one last trip to the salon.

    Keep being you, Jessica.
