As history has proven with the last two renaissances, when you add a dash of political discourse into a pool of creatives in an ever-changing world, a new form of society is bound to result. Important figures from the Enlightenment era such as Plato, Socrates, and Shakespeare have risen from such times to explore the humanity of life. While influences of the Harlem Renaissance like Langston Hughes, W. E. B. DuBois, and Zora Neale Hurston went on to propel that information to advocate for the humanity of life. But ultimately, how does that affect our own era of revelations? With seven new Earth-like planets in the cards, the advancement of technology, and a wave of female empowerment, surely a new concept of humanity will soon emerge.
As for the world’s current state, it appears to have all the ingredients necessary to form another period of enlightenment. People dress eccentrically, there’s an overabundance of young workers opting for professions in the creative or technological industries rather than trade careers, and annual festivals are held to feature fictional characters like the gargantuan creatures called “furries”. The threat of war is always eminent whether it’s religious or political, but the people’s response is what separates the times. So for the third and not likely to be the last time, look for unity. Look for the artistic expression in every medium around the world that sends a resounding message of this: we’re all simply here for life, love, and the pursuit of pizza-- I mean happiness.
