One of the most famous Romantic poets, William Wordsworth lived much of his life in England's Lake District. Many of his poems, including "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" and "Lines Left Upon a Seat in a Yew Tree," were inspired by its landscape. Wordsworth wrote about nature, imagination, memory, and mortality, emphasizing ordinary language and passionate emotion.

Dorothy Wordsworth is best known for her journals describing her life at Dove Cottage in the Lake District, where she lived with her brother William. Wordsworth took daily long walks in the countryside and was fascinated by nature; some of William's poems draw upon his sister's writing. Wordsworth also wrote accounts of her travels, although none of her writing was published until after her death.

Beatrix Potter is the author of the beloved children's books about Peter Rabbit and his friends. She was also a naturalist and conservationist who created detailed illustrations of flora and fauna and was an expert on fungi. She lived in the Lake District for many years, where she became an expert sheep-breeder.

He criticized mass production, valued art that was true to nature, and advocated for conservation and environmentalism, a more equitable economic system, and better treatment for workers. Ruskin's time in the Lake District impacted his aesthetics and politics.
