6 Houseplants To Spice Up Your Life

Here's a list of the best and easiest plants to care for from a self-proclaimed plant expert. This is for the Editorial Fellowship

1. Pothos

Pothos, or Devil's Ivy, are, in my 'expert' opinion one of the easiest plants to care for. They are fast-growing, pretty to look at and don't care if you forget about them.

Lighting: Pothos tend to survive and thrive in any type of lighting. You can put them in a dark bathroom or a bright, sunny bedroom and they will continue to grow.

Water: The best strategy when it comes to watering pothos is to let them dry in between watering. If their soil looks a little dry, try feeling the dirt and water if the top two inches are dry, other than that your plant baby is probably just fine!

The best part about pothos is they come in SO MANY different varieties, and each one is just as easy as the last!

2. Snake Plant

Next up we have snake plants, which are one of my personal favorites because you can put them in a dark corner and they won't care at all!

Lighting: As mentioned above, snake plants can survive in the darkest of places, mine used to sit in a corner that got almost now light and it grew nearly a foot taller! Of course, they would still thrive just as much in a place that receives bright indirect light.

Water: Snake plants are also very low maintenance when it comes to water, if you water it once a month it will be happy!

Snake plants are truly one of the easiest plants out there! They are the perfect plant to start your own at-home jungle with!

3. Spider Plant

Spider plants are one of the coolest houseplants out there because it grows miniature versions of itself that you can cut off and propagate to add to your plant collection!

Lighting: Spider plants prefer to be put in a place with lots of bright indirect light. The more sunlight they get, the more mini spider plant babies it will produce!

Water: As with most plants, and as mentioned above for pothos, spider plants only need water when they are dry. You don't want to overwater them, so feeling the dirt before watering is always a good idea!

4. Peace Lily

Peace lilies are SO EASY!! Not only that, they grow quickly and can get quite large, so they are the perfect addition to an at-home jungle!

Lighting: Peace lilies thrive in indirect sunlight, just like almost every plant out there.

Water: As for watering, peace lilies tend to get droopy when they want water, which is a super easy indicator of when you should give them a drink! If they are droopy, give them water; if not, they are doing just fine!

Another fun thing about peace lilies is that they put out super pretty, white flowers! Watch out for those in the smmertime!

5. Zz Plant

Zz plants are so super easy, you couldn't kill them if you tried!

Lighting: Zz plants can thrive with bright indirect sunlight, but also will thrive with less light. If you have an empty corner, but it doesn't get a lot of light, a zz plant might just be what you need!

Water: Zz plants are just as low maintenance when it comes to watering, watering once or twice a month is probably all it needs!

6. Hoyas

Last, but not least, is my favorite houseplant ever! Hoyas are super easy to take care of with the right growing conditions!

Lighting: Hoyas like bright indirect light, just as most plants do, but they thrive best in it! With the right amount of lighting, they will begin to vine and can even bloom!

Water: Hoyas are pretty hardy plants so if you forget to water them once in a while they will be fine, but they typically like to be watered when their soil is dry. Again, feeling the dirt to make sure it is dry before watering is the easiest thing to do!

Like pothos, hoyas come in so many different varieties, each with thier own unique qualities!
