A productive lockdown

Stannum is 4 members passionate about rock music. Luc, Hugolin, Abel, and Manu. They have just released their first EP with 7 songs more rock ones than the others. They hesitated for a long time between releasing an album or an EP. The idea was there and the songs were accumulating. It is during the first lockdown in May 2020, that the decision is taken. It will be an EP. Fewer tracks but more work. Despite the current pandemic, they finish recording mid-September and they launch the rest: illustration, marketing, advertising.

Who are they ?

We asked them to tell us about STANNUM, its history and their inspirations. Here are their answers.

Luc (bass player) :

For this EP, my inspirations are mainly Jamiroquai and Jaco Pastorius. I play 2 different instruments that I made: a 4-string fretless bass and a 5-string. I met Abel in boarding school, he introduced me to Manu, and then Hugolin arrived.

The EP is the first real project that we finish, we are proud of it. These 7 tracks are above all 7 stories from our life . Moments, memories, small pieces of life that have marked us. My inspirations are clearly John Frusciante, Jimi Hendrix, Danko Jones, and Polyphia for the guitar. While on the piano I am very inspired by Nick Cave

Hugolin (drummer) :

Stannum is my first group. It all started for me when I met Manu at the jazz studio in Antwerp. He then introduced me to the rest of the band with whom the feeling was as fast as a McLaren at Spa Francorchamps. Even if I don't share their inspirations, there is always common ground between theirs and mine such as Steven Wilson, King Crimson, and more alternative things. We are really complementary all four of us.

For me Stannum, even though it's a band that's about a year old, it's a story that started 6 years ago, when Abel and I started playing guitar. We used our common inspirations (the Red hot chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix,...) to write a first song and many others since then. It's this long-lasting connection, reinforced by our meeting with Luc and Hugolin that is at the base of our band. We try to make this friendship felt through our songs.
