You are unfailing honest and unapologetic about your emotions and experiences, particularly your darkest ones. You've seen a lot in your life so far. Full of questions with few answers, you spend your time with people as vivid and complex as yourself, and you march to your own beat. Joni Mitchell said of this album: "there’s hardly a dishonest note in the vocals...At that period in my life, I had no personal defences. I felt like a cellophane wrapper on a pack of cigarettes. I felt like I had absolutely no secrets from the world and I couldn’t pretend in my life to be strong. Or to be happy. But the advantage of it in the music was that there were no defences there either.”

Blue

You're exhausted a lot of the time, but you know how to recharge. Your voice is clear, and your messages are sharper and more vivid than in your younger days, sometimes even troubling with regards to the demons facing us all. Fiercely protective of your own freedom and creative life, you prioritize returning to nature, quiet, and beauty; returning to yourself. The Guardian describes For the Roses this way: "The song Lesson in Survival could well have been the title of the album – one that deals with the capacity of the natural world to heal and rebuild, the benefits of solitude, stillness and isolation on the psyche."

For the Roses

You often find yourself on the line of introversion and extroversion, fun and deeper meaning, childhood and adulthood, your future and your roots. Still, you value those moments of feeling "unfettered and alive," falling/being in love, and the freedom to express your quirks. You deal with the complexities of adulthood shrewdly, though, even at the parties — especially after the parties, when you sit alone in your favorite room of the house, thinking about the people you saw, wondering about their lives, love, and ways of being: "Some are cutting, some are watching it from the wings. Some are standing in the centre, giving to get something.”

Court and Spark

The world, at least the one in your head, pulsates with color and life, but you're at your best when you move slowly, with intention, and maybe a drum soundtrack. You have few regrets and little shame, or at least that's how you'd like to feel. In other words, you aim to embody freedom, without the pressure of attachments, but...you still attach to people and places sometimes, and love them. Loneliness is a threat and a gift. Ultimately, you "keep moving, keep growing," struggling as we all do between ego, escape, and connection, your eyes always open to possibility.

You're a little corny, but you're not apologetic about it. It's a strength, not a weakness. You express whatever is on your mind, who cares if it's on the nose about love, or friendship, or nostalgia, or how much gentrification sucks, or an extensive escape to a music festival? There are traditions you love, and traditions you'll shirk in order to make new ones, but you like them, traditions. You're not particularly mysterious, but you are the light of the sun; you love to collaborate, to be together: you are a fun hang.

Ladies of the Canyon

You, as Pitchfork magazine says about this album, officially "departed from the mainstream," and you care deeply about being taken seriously. You're probably a jazz fan. You are a consumer and producer of social commentary (even if just within yourself)--inequities of any kind, not to mention any love affair with tradition/anything old fashioned, do not sit well with you. You're a reflective observer, creating new ways to see the world as you are seeing it, creating new ways to live as you are living.

Hissing of Summer Lawns

You are probably a jazz fan, and...you probably lean more toward standards than say...Charles Mingus or T. Monk. Beyond musical taste, though, you're an old, possibly weather-worn soul -- your life has been symphonic in its fullness. You love a good story, complete with joy and sadness. You love telling a story, too, supported by your friends who add details as you go, thickening the texture, landing the depth, message, humor, and love.
