Today, you feel like education is the silver bullet, that as a teacher, you have arrived to shape lives, change minds, bring magic, connection, and growth. Think Ted Lasso, Dead Poet's Society, Abbott Elementary, Friday Night Lights. You will no doubt be inspiring and inspired today. Even if the feeling doesn't stay forever, it is essential to the teaching profession-- idealism is always there to give you strength when you remember it's available.

Idealist

You are ready to put a lot of energy into connecting with your students today, relating to them, being their pal. Most teaching manuals instruct that you should NEVER be your students' friend, but there's a difference between being approachable, relatable, and friendly, and being their best buddy with no boundaries. You may need to THINK about boundaries today more than someone who got a different result, but as long as you keep in mind that you are the authority figure and students depend on that solid boundary line to feel secure and safe, feel free to Bitmoji, reference popular music, interpretive dance, fist bump, wear sneakers...whatever puts you on their level for even the smallest moment of connection.

Relatable

Today, you are simply telling it, and experiencing it, like it is. Teaching is tough, students are a mixed bag, and yet...such potential for amazing things to happen! It also has a great pension plan. You're not lacking in heart or respect for the profession at all, you're just feeling very logical, practical, decidedly not idealistic, and perhaps a little tired. Teaching is no picnic, but it IS a worthy cause, often a trial as well as an inspiration. It's complicated, but what worthwhile endeavour isn't?

Realist

Today, you've got swagger. Your boots are made for walkin', sun's out guns out, you're holding your head and chest high. Though not aggressively, you expect and demand respect. It may be challenging to balance this confidence and edge with listening to your students and allowing them to guide discussions, etc., but if you keep in mind that the goal is to foster growth and autonomy, not just obedience, you'll be able to use your Boss status to inspire strength in the classroom.
