Samantha Morton Says Harvey Weinstein Attempted To "Destroy" Her Career After She Turned Down A Film

"I was told unequivocally, 'You’re not going to work again unless you do this role.'"

Harvey Weinstein may be behind bars, but there are still people coming forward with awful stories about the disgraced producer.

Minority Report actor Samantha Morton says that in the early 2000s, Harvey actually tried to destroy her acting career.

While appearing on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Samantha explained that after Harvey saw her in 1997's Under the Skin, he wanted her to star in About Adam.

"I said, 'I don't like it. I think the film is really misogynistic, and I don't want to be part of it,'" Samantha said while reflecting on the experience.

Apparently, that didn't go over too well because the casting director allegedly told her, "You don’t say no to Harvey."

Looking back, Samantha says it had nothing to do with Harvey, and she just wasn't interested in the project.

"It was just not interesting to me. I was uber-polite," she said. "I [then] had a phone call saying, 'You can't say no.'"

Samantha continued, "The 'no' wasn’t being listened to. So, they kept coming back with this role, and I was told unequivocally, 'You’re not going to work again unless you do this role. I’m going to make your life hell. You will not work again.'"

Despite the threat, Samantha stood her ground — and admits that it probably did cost her roles in the future.

When she later auditioned for 2005's The Brothers Grimm, she says Harvey turned her down because she was "unfuckable."

"It made me question why he was anti-me?" Samatha said, before realizing it probably had to do with turning down About Adam.

"I forgot about it because it was years earlier. And then, all these years later, I realized that [when] I get an offer, get a letter from a director, if Miramax or then the Weinstein Company had anything to do with it, it was just awful for me," Samatha shared.

She added, "He had a reason, a deep-seated reason, to just try and destroy my career… He categorically couldn't, because I kept working, doing independent cinema all over the world."

Samatha has continued to succeed in Hollywood — while Harvey is serving two consecutive prison sentences for sexual assault and other sex crimes.
