Rebel Wilson Opened Up About Being Criticized For Attending Parties The Week Her Daughter Was Born

"It was only a week until I got mum-shamed."

It didn't take Rebel Wilson very long to start getting mom-shamed after welcoming her daughter Royce.

After the little girl was born back in November, Rebel says it was only a week before people began criticizing her parenting skills.

During an appearance on the Life Uncut podcast, Rebel explained that people didn't like how quickly she started attending social events after Royce's birth.

"It was only a week until I got mum-shamed," Rebel shared on the podcast.

Rebel admitted that she and girlfriend Ramona Agruma did attend Leonardo DiCaprio's birthday party and Paris Hilton's wedding anniversary shortly after Royce's birth — but both events happened on the same night, well after Royce was asleep.

She added that her nanny even encouraged her to go out, especially because Rebel felt that it was partially a work event.

"Our baby was like one-week-old and the nanny's like, 'Go!' And I'm like, 'No, no. I don't feel like going out,'" Rebel shared. "But she's like, 'The baby goes to sleep at, like, 7 o'clock every night. The baby is asleep. You're totally fine. Just go out.'"

She later added, "Going to parties is fun but it’s a little bit of work in a way. Like, I’m talking to directors or talking to other actors that might be useful to collaborate with...And then we were basically home by midnight."

When the comments started rolling in, Rebel says she was actually "shocked" by the backlash.

"Chris Hemsworth goes to the gym, and people aren’t yelling, 'Where’s your kids? What are you doing?' But why do they do it to every woman?" Rebel said.

She noted that she finds it's usually "women shaming other women" and despite what they say, she doesn't believe that you have to lose yourself because you're a mom.

"Just because you become a mother, doesn’t mean that you lose your identity as a person," she said. "It doesn’t mean you can’t go out with friends or you can’t go on a holiday. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a career."

She continued, "It's hard but it doesn't mean you give up who you are as a person."

And while Rebel is all about balancing her life as a new mom, she says at the end of the day, she'd rather be at home with Royce.

"We don't go out that much though because we just want to stay home [with the baby] and chill," Rebel concluded.
