Ever since the overturning of Roe v. Wade — the landmark decision that had previously protected citizens' right to have a safe and legal abortion for 50 years — more and more men have started to get vasectomies.
If you don't know, a vasectomy is a quick surgical procedure during which small tubes in the scrotum that carry sperm are cut so that sperm doesn't leave the body. According to Planned Parenthood, this method is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy and incredibly safe.
And though most recover within just a few days, partners of those who undergo the procedure have started creating custom care packages to give patients a little giggle as they heal.
With one search of "vasectomy care packages" or "vasectomy baskets" on TikTok, users will find hundreds of videos with tens of thousands to nearly a million views.
Following her husband's procedure, Karina said she saw others on TikTok putting together tongue-in-cheek vasectomy care packages and wanted to make one herself. So, in her basket, she included treats with personalized notes like, "sorry about your" beef jerky...
..."I'll take your" sausage "without the wrapper"...
..."unlimited" creme pies...
..."worry free" Lay's...
...100% juice with "no seed"...
..."sorry about your" Ding Dongs...
..."forever your" Nutty Buddies...
..."Snip'd" Cheez-Its...
... and "no more" Mountain ~Dew~ dates.
Other favors included Tylenol, comfort cream, new underwear, a "Vasectomy Survivor: I Kid You Not" shirt, and balloons with sperm graphics on them.
In the comment section of Karina's video breakdown on everything that went into the basket, people couldn't help but share how oddly sweet this gift is. "This is actually really adorable and thoughtful," one person wrote.
And men who previously underwent the procedure revealed they wished they had received one. "I wish I had this support when I went through mine," someone said.
"All I got was a frozen bag of peas and a pillow," another added.
With the baskets reaching newfound virality, it looks like more patients will have goodies to look forward to, like the partner of this woman who said, "Saving this for when my husband gets his."
And on the flip side, such attentive care packages are making those with other forms of birth control jealous. "I never got my IUD basket," this person said begrudgingly.
After giving her husband the care package, Karina admitted he was not as excited as she would have hoped, but seeing as how he just got out of surgery, she understood. "But he did laugh a lot," she concluded. "And definitely ate most of the goodies."
Now I'm curious — what would you want to see in a post–birth control procedure care package? Let us know in the comments.
