Though school closings, remote learning, and the pandemic have stalled the often fatal tempo of school shootings across the US, there have still been 16 reported shootings this year.

Recently, four schools in Rigby, Idaho's Jefferson School District 251 — including Rigby Middle School, Farnsworth Middle School, Rigby High School, and Jefferson High School — have banned backpacks from their halls after a 13-year-old student was found with a gun in hers.

According to KSL, students have been asked to carry their books to and from school and place supplies in their locker. However, some teens at Rigby High shared insider videos on TikTok with scenes in the cafeteria, hallways, and classrooms, which show students carrying their loads in an array of objects.

Note: This student captioned their video, "When there was a school sh00ting yesterday so now we aren't allowed to have backpacks anymore." However, the middle schooler with the gun — whose name is unknown due to her being a minor — did not shoot or point the weapon. No one was harmed, and she was brought to the sheriff's office.

In a press release, school district superintendent Chad Martin said, "We ask our parents to partner with us in keeping all of our students safe. Please keep your firearms safe and inaccessible to students. If you notice changes in your student's behavior, attire, or personality, notify us so we can help your student."

BuzzFeed reached out to the Jefferson Joint School District about the backpack ban and whether mental health services have been made available to students. We will update you if they reply.
