"We Should Not Be Afraid To Leave These Men": Mia Khalifa's Message For Women Considering Divorce Is Sparking Debate

"The only people who are mad, it seems like to me, are the men who are the toxic ones in these relationships," Mia Khalifa responded.

Depending on what side of the internet you're on, media personality Mia Khalifa is either receiving backlash or a round of applause for her recent comments on marriage.

In a recent video, Mia jokingly responded to a commenter who shared their experience ending a marriage after two years with a rundown of her own dating history. "Married at 18, divorced at 21," the personality began. "Second marriage: married at 25, divorced at 28. Third engagement: engaged at 29, ended it at 30, but I kept the ring."

"We should not be afraid to leave these men," Mia concluded. "We are not stuck with these people. Marriage is not a sanctimonious thing — it is paperwork. It's a commitment you make to someone, but if you feel like you're not getting anything from that commitment and you're trying, you gotta go... This is your fucking life. Do you want to be stuck with someone?"

While the overall message from Mia centered around easing guilt over leaving a marriage with partners who do not offer the same level of commitment and effort, viewers took the video in different directions. On one side, many praised Mia for opening the conversation. "I just want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for saying the quiet part out loud," one person wrote.

"The truth in this! As we get older, we change and grow. Sometimes, that means we grow apart from our partners, and the best thing is to leave," another added.

However, the video was shared to other platforms and largely criticized — not because of Mia's words, but because of her former profession in the sex industry. Several viral tweets suggested that any advice concerning marriage, or advice to young women in general, could not be taken seriously when coming from the 30-year-old.

However, this line of thinking was quickly shut down. "Most dudes find it threatening that a woman would tell other women to get the fuck out of toxic relationships," twitter user @ClarkMFKent said. "Her work history is irrelevant. Nobody bats an eye when priests who can't get married give advice. At least Mia Khalifa has relationship experience."

Eventually, Mia responded to the debate with a follow-up video where she said she received thousands of messages threatening her for the take. But "I'm really failing to see what's wrong with it," she said.

"I'm failing to see what's wrong in telling young women who get married young, that if they are in relationships that are unhealthy and toxic and make them unhappy, that just because they made a 'commitment,' they are not stuck in these relationships."

"The only people who are mad, it seems like to me, are the men who are the toxic ones in these relationships and who are afraid of their women having self realizations, and exercising free will, and leaving them."

"That ideal that you have to stay in a relationship you committed to? You don't. If you're not happy, get the fuck out of there," she concluded.

    PERIOD!
