WalesOnline is reporting that Ian Watkins was “an ambassador” for young people.
He became the ambassador for the Kidney Wales Foundation in 2008. As a result he posed with children and staff at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
On Tuesday, Watkins pleaded guilty to 13 sexual offences, including two of attempting to rape a baby. DCI Peter Doyle of South Wales Police said:
This investigation has uncovered the most shocking and harrowing child abuse evidence I’ve ever seen.
Police are continuing to hunt for more of his victims around the world.
It has emerged that Watkins encouraged a teenager in the US to fly to meet him dressed in a school uniform before filming her engaging in sexual acts.
In 2008 he said:
I had a great time meeting all the kids at the [hospital].
“Lots of the children … are waiting for a kidney transplant, but there’s a desperate shortage of donors. That’s why we need more people to join the Organ Donor Register and help save a life one day.
His involvement with the charity began after his mother had a kidney transplant.
She is in serious ill health. She and her husband have spoken of their horror at their son’s crimes.
