Top Ten Sunsets And Sunrises In Oman

Do you know that I LOVE sunsets? Well, I do! I love their consistency and yet their unpredictability. These ten locations in Oman have been my favorites thus far for watching the sun rise and set. I hope that you can enjoy them too. (All pictures are my own)

1. Qurum Beach

Everyone who comes to Muscat should go to Qurum beach, this is where I like to take guests their first evening in the country. When the weather is nice (9/12 months) this beach is filled with families picnicking and pick-up games of football. Without fail, this place always has a good view of the sunset on the water.

2. Wahiba Sands

Camping in the desert will get you a great sunset and sunrise. I love the way the sand glows as the sun sets and the night cools down.

3. Sawadi

Watching the sun set on this small private island after a few hours in the water snorkeling is idyllic. Sawadi beach is about an hour and half north of Muscat. Local fishermen use their boats as water taxis on the weekends and will be happy to drop you off at these nearby islands and then return to pick you up on an agreed upon time.

4. My roof

I love that houses in the Arab World come with finished rooftops for hanging laundry, barbecuing, shisha, and watching the sunset.

5. Camping on the coast

This picture was taken at the yacht club where you can pay 5 rials per person to stay overnight. I brought a tent but decided not to use it, there is something about being the only thing between the earth and the sky that I find really special. Plus, this way I knew I would wake up to watch the sunrise without setting an alarm.

6. Misfat Abreen

Wandering through ancient towns is always more enjoyable during the golden hour as the sun is preparing to go down.

7. Azeiba Beach

In Muscat, this is another one of my favorite places to come watch the sunset. There is a cafe (Fanajeen) on this beach that I like bringing guests to because what goes better with this view than a good cup of karak tea?

8. Amerat Mountain

One of my favorite experiences in Muscat was getting to climb this mountain but fair warning, this incline is so severe you are literally rock climbing without any equipment so this is not an adventure for anyone afraid of heights. If you are not able to climb the Amerat mountain, you can still get great views of the sunset or sunrise by driving up and over the mountain which takes about twenty minutes.

9. Muttrah Corniche

This is best visited around sunset when the souq is coming alive, lights are twinkling up in the old fort, and exercisers walk quickly along the sidewalk.

10. Camp spot near Misfat Abreen

I read about this place in an off-roading book so its not actually a secret but it sure was a hunt to find it. The mountains up in this area are beautiful and my car should definitely not have made the drive out there but the view at sunrise made it very much worth the danger we may or may not have faced.
