Groom Surprises Wedding By Rapping His Vows, Just Wait Until You See The Bride's Reaction

Will and Meg got married. It was beautiful. Everyone looked their best, the vines were in full bloom. But beneath the surface lurked a secret. A terrible, musical secret.

When it came time to plan their wedding, both Will and Meg knew exactly what they wanted. They wanted their wedding to be unique. Classically them. Fun, yet sweet. Romantic while still being the party of the century. And it all started with the vows.

Will and Meg first met in early 2010, on the third-string dating site “Plenty of Fish.” They got Iranian ice cream and cocktails. Meg came home from the date and famously told her roommates, “He’s tall, funny, bearded like a Viking and a great kisser. I’m done.” It took Will a little longer. Four break-ups, three dogs, eight years and one day later, Will proposed on the top of a mountain in Kauai, Hawaii. It was a modern-day fairy tale.

They knew that by rapping their wedding vows, they were not going to get the luxury of a sweet ceremony where they could tear up as they heard each others’ vows for the first time. These vows required practice, rehearsal and precision. They had to be perfect. In order to get that sweet moment, Meg and Will set a date for four months before the wedding date; the day the vows needed to be done. They would make a romantic dinner, open a bottle of wine, and share their vows with each other for the first time. As they lay in bed on the night before “vows dinner”, Will told Meg, he just couldn’t wait. He was too excited. They had to do the vows now! They sat up in bed and did the vows right then and there, by candlelight. It was perfect.

Each set of vows were uniquely them. Will took his inspiration from modern internet rappers like NicePeter and Dan Bull. Meg, more old school, learned everything she knows from early 90s hip hop; specifically Salt ‘n Pepa. After all, her favorite song is Shoop.

After hearing each others’ vows the real work began. Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of overlap of references. Both included lines about their favorite pop culture couples from Happy Endings and Parks and Recreation. And they needed a beat. Will spent days learning production software and composing the perfect beat. He downloaded an mp3 of Pachabel’s Canon in D (the popular wedding song) and painstakingly layered different parts of the track over one another until he got it just right, then added drums, chimes, and other flashes to make the beat you hear in the video.

The most important part was keeping the secret. Everyone had to be surprised. Will and Meg rehearsed in secret. Meg downloaded the beat to her phone and rehearsed early in the morning while hiking their dogs. Will listened to it in the car to and from work. Each night they snuck into their office, an exceptionally well-insulated room, to hide the secret from their roommates while they practiced. They even secretly met up with their DJ, Taylor Mosely, the night before the wedding for a dress rehearsal. Only the wedding vendors and their officiant/best friend knew the truth.

The day of the wedding was finally here. Family and friends came from all over the country for a long weekend in Temecula, California. As they sat down to a ceremony, they had no idea what was about to happen, just that Meg and Will would most likely be doing something spectacularly, uniquely them.

    They were not disappointed.
