Without warning (or time to stock up on our necessary supply of tissues), Disney dropped the first trailer for their live-action remake of Dumbo on Wednesday morning.
Viewed through the lens of Tim Burton, the reimagined story is equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking, as we follow a former horse showman, Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell), whose dreams soar when he returns to the big tent post-war. He joins a struggling circus where he is put in charge of a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him the laughing stock of the show, until it is discovered that Dumbo has the magical ability to take flight.
Featuring an updated version of the 1941 animated movie's signature balled Baby Mine, the brand new footage showcases what appears to be a much darker origin story for the beloved character, together with clips of Dreamland and the baby elephant taking to all-new heights for the first time, which will apparently now occur at the start of the movie as opposed to the end, according to a recent interview with one of the stars at CinemaCon.
Starring Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Michael Keaton and Alan Arkin, Disney has also shared an official synopsis for the movie:
"Disney's new live-action feature film Dumbo introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughing stock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star."

This is just one of Disney's many planned live-action adaptations of their animated classics, with The Lion King and Mulan also currently in production.
Dumbo, however, is scheduled to land into theaters on March 29, 2019.
