Michelle Yeoh, Ari Lennox, and Issa Rae... Sounds like a great film to me!
Duchess emulates class, respectability, and intelligence, so that can only be Gabrielle Union. Gabrielle will bring natural strength to the role, but also a great balance of flirty energy that we'll need between her and Luke James.
If you had a favourite from The Aristocats kids, it was most likely Marie. Sassy, smart, and determined, Marie could only be played by the funniest cast member of Mixed-ish – Mykal-Michelle Harris. Mykal is still so early into her career, but has already achieved so much at just 11 years old. I'm sure she would be able to bring the sass we love to see in Marie!
Berlioz has my heart! He's the quiet but mischievous kitten, and if you watched Minari (like you should have), you would know that he HAS to be played by Alan S. Kim. Alan's adorable charm and cheeky demeanour makes him the perfect casting for Berlioz – we need this to happen!
Toulouse is Thomas O'Malley's aspiring twin – he wants to walk like him, he wants to talk like him, but he's still just a kitten. Who else can be assertive yet equally loveable – Divine Love Konadu-Sun! He's the perfect choice to take on the oldest of the kittens, bringing authority with the right balance of shyness.
Madame Adelaide is a grand woman of great success who exudes sophistication and glamour with ease. Really there's only one option, and that's Michelle Yeoh. Imagine Michelle in Crazy Rich Asians and tell me I'm wrong... Exactly, you can't.
What do Edgar Balthazar and Benedict Cumberbatch have in common? They have the most old money names in history, and that's why this is a perfect pairing. Benedict being Edgar will make it hard for us to dislike the character instantly, but he's such an amazing actor, I'm sure we'll be throwing tomatoes at the screen by the end of the movie.
There's only one person who can voice a mouse that has somehow befriended a cat based solely on their charm, and that's Miss Keke Palmer! Playing a mouse aunty to our favourite kittens, only Keke will be able to portray a character dedicated to seeing her babies are safe at the end of the day. I couldn't think of a more perfect casting.
And who is Roquefort's bestie? Who is their ride-or-die, making sure they get to their shenanigans on time? Of course, it's Frou-Frou, who needs to be Issa Rae! Who else can drop witty one-liners when the going gets tough as well as Issa?
We don't see a lot of the band in the original movie, but they do have the best musical number in the whole film, so it's only right we cast the best of the best in music. Kicking things off is the director and The Roots legend, Questlove, as Scat Cat!
Hi Cat is our mellow guitarist with an introspective outlook on life, so naturally this will have to be Kid Cudi.
Peppo keeps the vibes high, your foot tapping, and the spirit alive. I can't think of anyone else to do this but Anderson .Paak!
The original band was a bit of a boys club, but why should they get to have all the fun?!? Billy Boss should be a woman full of soul, with talent so large it will capture a nation, and that is none other than Ari Lennox.
The original racist stereotypes of Shun Gon aside, he was the key master of the group, and that should naturally go to one of the greatest talents on the piano of our generation – Mr Jacob Collier.
Napoleon and Lafayette aren't main characters, but they do provide great comedic relief! So who better than everyone's favourite funny men Keegan-Michael Key and Damon Wayans Jr. This duo will have us in stitches throughout the film.
