Lots of Midwesterners have fond memories of picnicking and lounging by the lake. Ludington State Park is nestled between Lake Michigan and the much smaller Lake Hamlin. Ludington has gorgeous hiking trails for people who want a quiet walk in the woods, and it also has a beautiful beach with concession stands that have plenty of yummy foods. There's even a historic lighthouse.

This State Park is a hiker's paradise. It has 65,000acres of forest which means you won't get bored of exploring. There are tons of wildlife to see and for those of you who prefer being on the water, there's canoeing, kayaking and fishing.

Alleghany State Park

This massive state park (500sq miles) has something for everybody who wants to vacation in paradise. It has TWO active volcanoes, hiking breathtaking landscapes and in some spots there's horseback riding through lush green countryside.

Hawai'i Volcanoes State Park, Hawai'i

Maybe I'm biased because I spent every Christmas day in this park for probably six years, but it is beautiful. There's backpacking, hiking, canoeing and bird watching. If you're feeling really adventurous, you'll get a beautiful view of the park on the canopy skywalk. While you are walking through the park you will DEFINITELY see an alligator.

Mayakka River State Park, Florida

The name roughly translates to badlands and the badlands formations are everywhere. You can also live out your childhood dreams by finding fossils throughout the park-just as long as you leave them where you find them. There are also numerous picnic spots and camp sites.

Makoshika State Park, Montana

Chugach State Park has more than 280 miles of hiking trails and you can see plenty of wildlife including moose, whales and bald eagles. If you visit in the late summer, the park is awash in blueberries
