Ichiro Suzuki Reaches 3,000 Hits
Ichiro Suzuki, who plays for the Marlins, became the 30th player in league history to hit 3,000 hits, and only the second (after Pete Rose) of reaching this feat after their 16th season. “If you’re at the end of your career and you are limping toward that number, the goal is just to get to it. But for me, when you are part of a team, you’re out there just playing baseball and you [just happen to] get to that number,” Ichiro told Marly Rivera for ESPN The Magazine. “I am not limping to that number. I am playing the game, and I happen to get to that number because that’s where I am.” Ichiro, who only began playing professionally at the age of 27, had his best season in 2004, when he achieved 262 hits, breaking the single-season hits records that was previously held for 84 years.
