2. You spend too much mental energy doing things that should be habits

More than 40% of the actions performed each day are habits, not conscious decisions. Free up your mind for important decisions by habitualizing as many things as possible. For example, make exercising, healthy eating, and stress management habits.

3. You don’t have good habits

To establish a new habit you have to establish a simple and obvious cue and clearly define the rewards. To start a new exercise habit, for example, put your running shoes and clothes at the foot of your bed to cue the running habit and then relish in the post-run endorphin rush while you shower (the rewards).

4. You haven’t changed your bad habits

You can't extinguish a bad habit; you can only change it. When an urge or craving to do your bad habit comes on, note where you are, who you are with, what you are doing, how you feel, and what time it is. You also have to figure out what you’re getting out of it. Are you drinking because you like being drunk or because it distracts you from your stress? Are you snacking because you are hungry or because you are bored?

5. You don’t believe that you can change

Things will get tough and you will relapse, but the key to making a habit a lifelong behavior is to reflect on the experience. Figure out what made you relapse and make a plan for future triggers. View your failures as experiments that move you toward your goal.

7. You don’t know how to say no, and you don’t know how to hear someone else say no

For any relationship to be healthy, it is imperative to treat others as you yourself would like to be treated. With that you, must create your own boundaries to help preserve your personal beliefs and opinions, while also respecting other’s boundaries.

8. You procrastinate on the most important tasks

Prioritize your to-do list with the A B C D E method by labeling your most important task as “A” and moving down to letter “E” which is a task you can eliminate because there is no importance. When your energy level is high, work on the tasks that demand the most out of you so that when you are tired as the day goes on, you will be more likely to do the less demanding tasks.
