Five Facts About Lying And Deception

Here is a list of the five most important facts that I have learned throughout my lying and deception course this last semester.

Lying really is a bunch of Bullshit.

Bullshit is riddled throughout lying and deception. From being one of the ways of lying, to a flip side of a virtue of truthfulness, bullshit makes a presence in the world of lying and deception. As one of the nine ways to lie, tall tales and bullshit refers to lying to pass time or "one-upping" someone else. Bullshit is also the flip side of the virtue of accuracy; an absence of concert about what may be referred to as "other than truthful talk."

There are a total of nine different ways if lying and deception. Some lies such as white lies, tall tales and bullshit, and exaggerations have lower stakes while ways like, displacements, concealments, and collaborations have higher stakes.

Not only do we deceive others, but we also deceive ourselves.

Other than deceiving others we also deceive ourselves for a few reasons. We deceive ourselves to enhance our self-esteem, deception skills, our mental health and our competitive performance.

Yes, Presidents do lie.

Presidents lie, always have and always will. They lie in five different ways including justified lies, minor lies, lies to cover up or omit information, and lies of policy deception.

We don't start learning to deceive until the ages of 3-6.

During this age period we start to develop the basics of lying and deception. Despite the development of our deception at this age, we still don't have the ability to control our behavior so the smiling and looking away is a common thing.
