Tropicana Ditches Redesign

In January Tropicana redesigned all of its cartons as part of PepsiCo's '09 Rebranding Extravaganza. Turns out the redesign sucked though, and everyone hated it. They're switching back to the old design next month.

  • Hey I work at a store that sells this and let me tell you…it was a PITA to stock this stuff. It all looked the same. Definitely no way to gain loyal purchasers by making all varieties basically identical. FAIL!!!

  • They need to revert all their other brands too. What a colossal f-up. Example: Gatorade a.k.a. “G.” What the hell do the cryptic phrases on the new bottles mean? I can't tell what kind of Gatorade I'm buying anymore unless I happen to have my G Flavor Decoder Ring handy.

  • I wonder how often a company goes scraps its redesign and reverts to the old…

  • I actually liked the redesign, but then again, I inspect my purchases before buying rather than simply trusting familiar colors and shapes. Seriously, it's not as though they started labeling the varieties in code. If this were square blue stop signs, I could see the complaint — but it's OJ.

  • C'MON! The new carton looks like a lame store brand…not the full 'O pulp juice we all know & love. Unless you're my husband, then you are strange & do not love pulp. ;)

  • I think this is a great move, I hated that packaging. This is also a perfect way to show people how good design positively affects everything, and a bad design can ruin even the best of things.

  • Who the hell cares that much? Dear Righteous Tropicana Consumer:
Is your orange juice consumption that important to you? How sad that you are that slavish to marketing.
