So…I actually think this was rather confusing, as broadcast. In context Julianne Moore had just presented, so it was too soon for her to appear back at her seat as a nominee for Game Change. So when the editing paused when her name was announced, we had to remember that she was apparently elsewhere and couldn’t be filmed, but then the camera cut awkwardly to Amy (who I LOVED) sitting in the audience with a very Julianne Moore red wig and big teeth. This was before Tina would later appear as a fictional nominee herself, so the gag hadn’t yet been revealed. At home we honestly thought Amy was making a cute joke about celebrities who are nominated for awards and yet don’t appear, and the editing/announcing of the nominees wasn’t seamless enough to carry the joke. So we had rewind several times. Was Amy casually making fun of Julianne? It sort of seems like she would be OK with that. But if she wasn’t, why the straight red wig? It was confusing.
