Just weeks after withdrawing his verbal commitment from Florida, Greg Reid… Reid made the announcement during a radio show Tuesday night on the eve of national signing day. … “It felt like it was the right place for me,” Reid said. The highly-touted defensive back cited several reasons why Florida State won out over his other potential college choices — schools like Alabama, Georgia and, of course, Florida: Reid had said there were three things he liked more about FSU than the other schools: 1) Early playing time, with the chance to start as a freshman; 2) Closest to home for family and friends to watch him play, with Tallahassee only 85 miles away, while Athens at 240 and Tuscaloosa, Ala., at 380; 3) Playing alongside his high school teammate, Gerald Demps, who is also committed to FSU. Reid won the Atlanta Journal-Constituion’s state Player of the Year award for Georgia this season. He’s almost a lock to see time immediately on FSU’s secondary and special teams units. In addition to dominating as a cornerback, Reid showed his athleticism off as a running back at Valdosta’s Lowndes High, rushing for 1,242 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior. Rivals.com ranks Reid as a five-star prospect, the fourth-best corner in the recruiting class of 2009 and the 27th-best player overall. As Florida State tries to regain some of its AWOL prominence, landing a guy like Reid becomes huge — not only because of the caliber of player he is, but anytime the Noles take down Florida and other big-name Southern schools in a recruiting battle, it only helps their national reputation.
