therblig 7 months agowe had a lab/pit mix named edith. she was hands down the smartest, strongest, and most self-assured dog we’ve ever had. until we child-proofed it, she would open the refrigerator, unscrew the lid from the peanut butter, and eat her fill. we put our cat food (another edie fave) in a small plastic garbage can with a bungee cord between the handles to hold the lid down. she pushed it down the stairs and the top popped off, and she pigged out on cat chow. great dog.

Glitterbabe 7 months agoDamn fat fingers hitting trashy!! Argh! I’d seriously take every single me of these dogs home if I could! I have never met a bad pit! People have always been horrified when I say the first dogs my daughter met as an infant were a Great Dane (she was the size of the Doug’s head at the time, & he loved her!) & pit bulls. They kept on about how dangerous the breed is. Please. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

Pit Bull dogs and mixes are sweet, loving, affectionate and very loyal dogs .. you couldn’t ask for a better companion. But, and it’s a big but, they are ticking time bombs and there is no way whatsoever to know when they will go off or if they ever will go off but when they do go off, the results are always catastrophic and can lead to death! It’s nature and not nurture. And yes, there are other dogs who attack people like Huskies, Rottweilers or Cocker Spaniels but when they attack someone, the victims walk away and you don’t need a break stick to open their jaws to make them let go of their victim. When Pit Bulls attack the results are usually catastrophic and if small children or the elderly are involved, more often than not will lead to death. What makes them so dangerous is their style of attack, which is to grab on to muscle, clamp down, shake and they will not let go even if they are severely injured and in excruciating pain. Once they are in attack mode, about the only thing that will stop a Pit Bull attack is a gun. The biggest problem with Pit Bull dogs are the owners that seem unable to admit that these dogs can cause horrific and catastrophic harm. The saying “Judge the deed not the breed” is totally wrong. The same deed by any other breed for the most part is not as devastating. You want to keep the breed around? Then be responsible and breed the “gameness” out of them which is the primary reason they are dangerous dogs. Gameness is the ability to keep fighting/attacking no matter how injured the dog is.

Babyteeth 7 months agoIn as much as any dog can be dangerous, sure. I’ve had aggressive dogs, I understand the care that needs to be taken around strangers, etc. But making the blanket statement that a type of dog (pit bull isnt really a breed) is an uncontrollable ticking time bomb that will kill everything is just irresponsible. Thousands of pit bulls and pit bull mixes pay for this type of ignorance every day- with their lives.

Another pit bull terrier pup I pulled minutes from being euthanized at the pound since his owner couldn’t pay his fines/boarding fee to spring him. HumVee went on to find a great home.

Badger, tiny pit bull pup saved from euthanasia at the city pound due to owner not being able to pay his fines (pretty common event) and my former mange covered stray pit bull terrier turned AKC Canine Good Citizen/Certified Therapy Dog, Inky von Pibble. Anyone who calls ANY breed of dog a “ticking timebomb” doesn’t understand dog behavior.
