It started with one simple question that gave rise to a tumblr, a film, and now a book.
1. Meet Vivek Shraya:
Vivek Shraya is a talented Toronto-based musician, writer and filmmaker (with fantastic facial hair). His collection of published short stories and other projects explores gender politics, queer theory, and religion.
2. He had one question: What do you love about being queer?
He filmed responses in his own living room to make the documentary:

Adcro 2 months agoBits of the gay community like to use it as our “own word” in the same way that some black folks use the ‘n word’ for themselves now. A lot of them still don’t like it, and likewise, a lot of gay folks like myself, don’t like the word queer, even if its other members of the gay community using it. I’m a gay man, I’m not “queer” :/

Isabel1206 2 months agoThis is a bit stupid.. It makes a big deal out of being gay when actually your sexual orientation shouldn’t matter at all. Shouldn’t there be a fight about equality rather than answers that aren’t specifically gay? If I were asked what I love about being straight I wouldn’t have an answer because it’s just who I am, so shouldn’t it be the same here.. they just are queer, why would they have to say exactly how they feel about it like it needs an explanation?!

SitaSky 2 months agoI totally agree, it’s good to be confident and the world certainly needs more out and proud people but everyone should be proud no matter their orientation and it doesn’t make you all that different in the end. Gay people want what straight people want and I agree nothing that was said is any different than what a straight person would say.

Thank you! So many gay people make such a huge deal about being gay when it’s just a small part of who they are. I am gay but it is not my entire existence in the least. They make their life based on the fact they are gay. I wish more gay people would realize this. There is more to life than their sexuality.
