Ke$ha's "Die Young" Reportedly Pulled From Radio Play After Newtown Shooting

Ke$ha tweeted: "I understand why my song is now inappropriate."

This was posted on Ke$ha's twitter Tuesday night:

The tweet came after a report on TMZ that said the song was gradually being taken off the air.

"The day after the shooting ... airplay dropped by 3 million listeners ... a sign that stations were slowly pulling the song off the air.

By Monday ... "Die Young" took a huge hit on the radio ... dropping down to 148 million listeners ... a 19 million drop from what had been a pretty steady rotation before the shooting."

Hollywood Reporter has a quote from a Ke$ha tweet claiming she was forced to sing the song's lyrics:

“I had my very own issue with ‘die young’ for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO. I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express.”

The tweet has since been deleted.

Still, it's unclear what long-term effect this will have on Ke$ha's song or her album sales. (Clear Channel, which owns 850 radio stations nationwide, told BuzzFeed the company had no comment, and Ke$ha's management at RCA Records did not respond to emails.) Last week, "Die Young" was near the top of Billboard.com's Radio Plays List and Hot 100 List.

Billboard's Radio Songs Chart shows the song at Number 3.

And has it at number 3 on the Hot 100.

Charly1300, a site that tracks radio play nationwide has the song at Number 1 as of December 16th.
