Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant has been absolutely annihilating the NBA recently; in his 16 January games he averaged an absurd 35.9 points per game on 54.9% shooting from the field, and he’s taken command of the MVP race. He is a bad, scary man.
But KD isn’t all vicious dunks and laser-guided jump shots: He has a sensitive side, too. This is his new signature Nike shoe, the KD VI Aunt Pearl. It pays tribute to his late aunt, who passed away from lung cancer in 2000.
The sneaker’s floral pattern is reminiscent of a robe she used to wear. The shoe features a Kay Yow Cancer Fund logo on the tongue, and proceeds will go toward the fight against women’s cancers.
“I made a promise to myself to always honor my Aunt Pearl for the example she set,” said Durant in a statement on the sneaker’s release.
