Women Who Are Going Through Chemo Are Decorating Their Eyebrows For The Festive Season

BuzzFeed News spoke to the inspiring Younger Breast Cancer Network whose members decided to "provide some laughs" at this tough time.

These amazing women who all have cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy are decorating their eyebrows for the festive season.

The women are part of the Younger Breast Cancer Network, an online support group for women in the UK and Ireland who have been diagnosed with breast cancer under age 45.

The network said that it wanted to "provide some laughs" for those going through chemotherapy.

"Going through chemo and other cancer treatment is hard," group member Sarah Perry told BuzzFeed News. "You spend so much time ill, stressed out, worried, afraid – maintaining a sense of humour and finding ways to laugh are so important."

Perry added: "Christmas can be a difficult time of year for younger women going through treatment like chemotherapy for breast cancer, especially when it is making them ill and preventing them from joining in the festive parties and celebrations."

That’s why the network decided to introduce “Chemobrow” for a bit of light relief.

The idea was originally inspired by another BuzzFeed article about drawing on eyebrows from November.

Perry drew on eyebrows, shared a photo of them on Facebook, and soon other network members wanted to join in with the fun.

The network said the project has been really popular among YBCN members.

"Many have been finding the run-up to Christmas this year difficult, and have said they have been really glad for the distraction and the laughs," Perry said.

"Hair loss is a particularly stressful part of cancer treatment, and for many, losing eyebrows and eyelashes is worse than losing the hair on your head. It's the lack of eyebrows and eyelashes that many of us feel makes us look like a 'cancer patient'."

"It's good to find ways to laugh about it and have some fun, getting creative in the space where our eyebrows used to be!"

The Younger Breast Cancer Network was set up by Victoria Yates. If you’re a young woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer, you can find out more about the group on its Facebook page.

The network is a place where women can chat freely about going through treatment, fertility, young families, relationships, and the feelings of isolation that come with being diagnosed at a young age.

You can also follow the network on Twitter.

Merry Christmas, Younger Breast Cancer Network!
