Two Dogs Are Dead And Others Have Fallen Ill In A Scandal That’s Shaken The Dog World

After the tragic death of a prized dog called Jagger, more owners are claiming their dogs were targeted. Update: The death of a second dog is being investigated by Crufts.

According to the BBC, the organiser of Crufts is looking into reports that a second dog, a Shih tzu, has died.

A Crufts spokesperson told BuzzFeed News: “The Kennel Club has received no details about the Shi Tzu who has allegedly died and whose identity remains unknown and we can confirm that no Shi Tzus were seen by the show vet at Crufts. We cannot look into claims about which we have no direct information, which is why it essential that people come forward with any concerns.”

After the alleged poisoning of a prized dog shook the Crufts world, more owners have now come forward claiming their dogs have been targeted.

Thendara Satisfaction, a 3-year-old Irish setter also known as Jagger, came second in his class at the Crufts show in Birmingham. He collapsed and died the day after he returned home.

His owners claimed that a postmortem examination revealed that their dog was "maliciously poisoned" by beef cubes found in the dog's stomach.

Jeremy Bott, co-owner of the dog, said the culprit may have had "a grudge against dogs or the Crufts show" but that he didn't believe the dog was targeted.

Dee Milligan-Bott, his wife, said it was not unknown for people to commit crimes like this at the dog show: "I can only imagine that it was a random act that somebody premeditated and wanted to cause total distress at the best dog show in the world."

In a Dog World article, Milligan-Bott suggested that the attacker might have wanted to target another dog she owns, Thendara Pot Noodle, who won the "Best of Breed" title at Crufts.

Crufts has defended itself following the scandal, insisting that it has high security measures and suggesting that Jagger might not have been murdered if he had not been left unattended.

A spokesperson said: "No one has eyes in the back of their heads so we appreciate that this may not be possible at all times, but keeping watch over your dog will minimise the risk of anything happening to him or her."

Following the tragic death of Jagger, several other dog owners have stepped forward to claim their dogs may also have been poisoned.

According to The Telegraph, some of the others that have been taken ill include a West Highland white terrier, an Afghan hound, a Shetland sheepdog, and a Shih Tzu.

The Kennel Club confirmed that it is looking into "suspicions" of more dogs being poisoned, but said no official complaints had been made by owners.

In a statement, it said: "There have been reports about a few dogs who were unwell whilst at the show who were taken to one of the show vets and we can confirm that the vets at Crufts established no connection between sickness and poisoning."

West Midlands police are working with Crufts officials to investigate the claims.
