A Mother Was Ordered To Wear A Huge Napkin To Cover Her Breastfeeding

Well, this napkin is really rather ridiculous.

Lou Burns, a mother of three, has caused a stir online by sharing snaps of what Claridge's ordered her to wear when she was breastfeeding in the luxury hotel.

Asked to cover up with this ridiculous shroud while #breastfeeding so not to cause offence @ClaridgesHotel today..

Burns was having afternoon tea with her family when staff quickly brought over a huge white napkin to cover her while she breastfed (see above).

Burns said she burst into tears after staff members at the hotel explained that they did not want to "offend" the other guests.

She described the hotel policy as "Victorian" to the Evening Standard, adding: "I have three children and this is the first time I have been able to breastfeed properly. Women are under so much pressure to breastfeed and it is not always easy. I did not expect to be made to feel I have done something wrong."

Burns – who's married to actor Nick Burns, the star of Nathan Barley and The IT Crowd – said that even after staff saw how upset she was, a senior manager still did not apologise and insisted she wore the napkin.

...SO much more obvious with it than without! Such a shame I can never go back.... @ClaridgesHotel #breastfeeding

She doesn't plan on returning any time soon, saying: "I was appalled and told the staff I really did not feel I would ever be able to go back there."
