Having Your Mates Over In 1995 Vs. Now

Something that's still as good now as it was in 1995 – PlayStation: for the players since 1995.

1. 1995: The guest list would include as many people as your room would fit.

Now: You don't even need everyone to be in the same house.

2. 1995: You'd impress your friends by connecting to the internet.

Now: Your friends get unreasonably angry if you won't tell them your Wi-Fi password.

3. 1995: You'd rent a Blockbuster video.

Now: The options are limitless and you don't need to leave the house.

4. 1995: You had to scramble around the back of the TV to plug everything in before you could start gaming.

Now: Everything streams through the TV, like a magical portal to another world.

5. 1995: Gaming meant taking it in turns waiting for your friend to die.

Now: Everyone can plug in and play at once.

6. 1995: You'd tell people to get there at 6pm, and they'd be there by 6pm.

Now: You tell people to get there for 8pm. You're lucky if 50% are there by 9pm.

7. 1995: A sleepover was the height of sophistication.

Now: A sleepover means that you were too drunk to go home.

8. 1995: Your annoying siblings would try and join in.

Now: Your weird flatmate will wander in…

9. 1995: You'd bring around your new CD or mixtape.

Now: Every bit of music you own is in your pocket.

10. 1995: You'd make prank calls on the house phone.

Now: Everyone is glued to their mobiles.

11. 1995: You just "knew" where your mates lived.

Now: Unless there's a neon sign and you have the exact Google Map coordinates, you're not going to find their house.

12. 1995: When you gamed, everyone wanted to be the one good character.

Now: You can customise game characters to look just like you.

13. 1995: You'd talk about your favourite TV shows and soaps.

Because you only had five television channels and rarely watched the news.

Now: You talk about world issues and a bit of politics.

And some things never change…

1995: You played your PlayStation.

Now: You're still at it.

Now with Share Play on PS4 you can play with your mates, wherever they are in the world – even if they don't own the game! So you can keep the sofa to yourself.
