Google's New Handwriting Keyboard Is Pretty Rad

    Because drawing > typing.

Google unveiled a new free keyboard app for Android called Google Handwriting Input.

Instead of typing on your phone or tablet, you can write any word or draw emojis.

The app recognizes characters from 82 different languages. You could totally write, "こんにちは!"

Handwriting is actually very useful for texting words with accents.

The app can recognize scribbled hand-drawn emojis too. 😈

    ...even poorly drawn ones. 🚲

This app is freakishly accurate because handwriting input has been a part of Google's products for many, many years.

In Google Search mobile apps, users have been able to use their fingers to draw right on the search landing page for several iterations. This feature is especially helpful for typing Chinese and kanji characters. All of the hand-drawn data has been closely studied, so Google can recognize even the worst chicken scratch and turn the drawn characters into text, in real-time, with great accuracy.

The thing is: Writing isn't necessarily faster than typing.

But it's still rad, because how often do you get to use your cursive skills? Probably never.

You can download Handwriting Input from the Google Play store.
