superthom 7 months agoChill the fuck out. It’s a bad joke. That’s all. Anyone who is genuinely offended by this and I mean genuinely, not a reaction they feel they should have because those around them have it, should take a long hard look at themselves. I fully support gay relationships and I feel those who are gay should have all the freedoms those who aren’t have, but this is just a stupid comic in a university newspaper. Once again, chill the fuck out.

I don’t care, even though this comic is incredibly disgusting, if it was supposed to be ~funny~ and ~edgy~. Its promoting violence against anyone who has a different sexuality. And that. is. not. ok. Because guess what? That just means that shit like this gets normalized. Being violent and degrading towards someone different is okay because HAHA SO FUNNAY. It has a negative affect on people. Its harmful. It encourages this kind of violent, ignorant behavior and if you deny that, I’m sorry, your ignorant.

I think the comic can be read as a sad commentary that the kind of man who would murder his own child for being gay would also screw up his children to the point that they would make horribly offensive, anti-homosexual jokes. The real punchline is that people who actively hate others for being different make terrible parents.

The apology is almost just as bad… “oops it was the cartoonist’s fault and we’ll review the editorial process” is basically what is said. There either was no editorial process or those in charge of the process agreed with what the cartoon said. The problem is the person in charge of said process is posting this “apology” and not owning up to anything. Just reeks of CYA.
