An orangutan mother is examined by rescuers after being tranquilized then falling from a tree into a net whilst clutching her baby in Sumatra, Indonesia.
A baby orangutan screams with fear as a charity worker plucks him to safety from imminent death.
The emaciated baby and his mother had become terrified of humans after palm oil workers bulldozed their habitat.
The desperate pair had been on the brink of starvation and had just days left before their home was wiped out for good by encroaching deforestation. But thankfully they were discovered by rescuers in an isolated patch of woodland due to be cleared for more plantations.

MrFoster 7 months agoPlease be aware that deforestation that is driving orangs to extinction is being done not just for palm oil. It is also being done for plantations to grow the trees that are used to make the soft, thick, cushy toilet paper favored by Americans. Very few Americans will use TP made from recycled paper because it isn’t white enough & soft enough for American a******s. So remember, next time you use that soft, quilted, extra nice TP, you are helping push orangs into extinction because you think your a*****e is more important than orangs.

Happysquid 7 months agoTHE FACTS Indonesia has the second highest rate of deforestation in the world.
Over 300 football fields of rainforest are destroyed every hour in South East Asia.
Clearing forest for palm oil plantations is the leading cause of deforestation.
Over 50 Orangutans a week die because of this devastation.
There are now less than 500 Sumatran tigers and 3000 Sumatran Elephants left in the wild.
Palm oil is contained in 40% of products in Australian supermarkets.
It is not mandatory to label palm oil in Australia.
There is an alternative. Companies can source Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) which is planted on already degraded land or grassland NOT rainforest.
We must take action now before it’s too late. Extinction is forever. HOW YOU CAN HELP Order protest postcards to make companies source Certified Sustainable Palm Oil and label palm oil.
