Pregnant Woman Miscarries After Being Sprayed With Pepper Spray

This is horrible. A pregnant protester named Jennifer Fox has miscarried after being pepper sprayed and hit in the stomach by Seattle police officers during a peaceful protest last week.

“I was standing in the middle of the crowd when the police started moving in,” she says. “I was screaming, ‘I am pregnant, I am pregnant. Let me through. I am trying to get out.’”

At that point, a Seattle police officer lifted his foot and it hit her in the stomach, and another officer pushed his bicycle into the crowd, again hitting Fox in the stomach. “Right before I turned, both cops lifted their pepper spray and sprayed me. My eyes puffed up and my eyes swelled shut,” she says.

She was fine for a couple days, until she started feeling sick.

Jennifer went to the doctor and found out her baby had no heartbeat. “They said the damage was from the kick and that the pepper spray got to it [the fetus], too.”

Seattle’s The Stranger newspaper is currently waiting for Jennifer’s medical records to confirm the miscarriage.

      way to put your fetus first! seriously, its one thing to support a cause, but to go there pregnant is bullshit. and i dont think anyone can sit here and defend that decision, peaceful protesting my ass. they all know what theyre signing up for. luckily, we live in a country where the extreme is just pepper spray… can anyone stop for a second and imagine living anywhere else???

      Enough with the victim-victimizer crap! It distracts from the real issue which is: police using tear gas and violent tactics in order to frighten, intimidate protesters so they’ll think twice about protesting again. That’s the cop side. On the protesters side: Their main error is in using late sixties style protest tactics rather than tactics which work such as those used by Gandhi in the 1930s and Dr King in the early sixties. Also: “peaceful” protesters don’t scream insults and profanities in cops faces with the intention of antagonizing them. That tactic’s only good if you want to start a riot. Real, true peaceful protests never work like that or use such tactics.

      I think this is disgusting. Those Seattle Officers are sworn to PROTECT & SERVE. If this is their idea of protection, I’d dare not imagine what they consider BRUTAL FORCE. Worst thing I have heard since the Rodney King incident.

      What we could be talking about:
      1) Reforming SEC rules to allow non-qualified institutional investors easier access to pre-IPO offerings without the burden of filing.
      2) Reforming lending laws, requiring greater scrutiny and higher qualification limits of home loans to low-income individuals.
      3) Impose limits on securitization of consumer-held debt; or the transferability of securitized consumer debt (mortgages, of course).
      4) Easier access to unemployment insurance.
      5) Close tax loopholes, simplify tax code.  I could go on. I don’t actually support most of the above reforms, but it would be quite refreshing to hear the OWS crowd at least trying to push something other then police brutality videos. Was that even the point of OWS in the first place?

      If true, she shouldn’t have been protesting. But then again, from what we are hearing, it is dubious that she was pregnant at all. These protests lack any purpose, except to try to catch police behaving badly. I thought it was about banking / economic reform. Silly me.

      I have seen police brutality up close and personal. At a high school football game, on the way to the snack bar, my son saw a man beating on a kid with a flashlight. He stepped forward, (all 95 bs of him) and asked the man to stop. He was an off duty cop but never identified himself. He knew the kid he was hitting and didn’t like him. He ended up breaking the kids wrist and arrested both of them. Up until then, I had always told my kids to respect the police. After that I told them to never piss off a cop. They have the power and the majority are azzholes. What amazes me is that with all this violence on the part of the police, the occupyers don’t retaliate. To me, that says it all.

      Dear lord almighty, if the following sentence doesn’t tip you off to the hoax, there’s something seriously wrong with you: “They said the damage was from the kick and that the pepper spray got to it [the fetus], too.” Science! The fact that she refuses to provide a medical record and has a history of claiming pregnancy each time she’s arrested is almost irrelevant after that.

      Seattle Times is reporting that this women’s story is being questioned. She is a 19 year old homeless woman that has been in foster homes for a great deal of her life. Her foster families are saying that she is known to be a great exaggerator and liar. The woman is not releasing medical records to definitively prove her claim. Seattle Police are trying to get this information as it is a very serious matter.  So… all Im saying, is that this headline and picture look bad. And pepper spraying anyone or using unnecessary force is bullcrap. But, we don’t know for sure what has happened and shouldn’t jump to the conclusion that the SPD are baby killers. They’re still dickheads, but maybe not baby killers.
