The original Penn Station was completed in 1911. Considered to be one of the most impressive buildings in the world, it also housed the largest indoor space in New York City.
But, in 1950, Penn Station auctioned off their air rights and a plan for an office building and sports arena were put into place. In 1963, the building was demolished amid a flurry of protests and by 1968, Penn Station as you know it was finished.

primavolta 4 months agoWell, without a doubt, the old Penn Station was much more beautiful than the new one. I don’t really think it’s fair to post pictures of, like, clocks or waiting rooms next to drunk people on the floor. It is an irrefutable fact that people always have been, and probably always will be, shitty.

Benjamin Sapiens 4 months agoNo matter how they’re photographed, the old Penn Station was indisputably far more magnificent and beautiful than the current one. Although it is true that a panoramic view of an atrium versus the sight of a dude passed out on the floor is not exactly a fair comparison.

This post is extremely stupid and just plain childish. Nothing can stay the same forever, as time changes everything else needs to adapt. It’s called modernization. Deal with it.

Agreed. You have to be completely ignorant to say something like this. Landmarks the world over give us a glimpse of our history and many should be preserved. The change a Penn Station is a well documented example of corporate greed destroying an incredible city landmark. Riddlemetom, go spend some time in Grand Central and then head over to Penn and tell me if this form of modernization is good.
