How To Make Origami Animals Out Of Boring Election Leaflets

Recycled political masterpieces.

Meet Mark Bolitho, the chair of Britain's Origami Society and a devoted artist.

BuzzFeed News challenged him to turn all those election leaflets littering everyone's postboxes into beautiful origami creations.

He started with a poster featuring Green party leader Natalie Bennett.

And the Australian-born politician was transformed into a lovely kangaroo.

What could Bolitho do with this fake letter from David Cameron that was stuffed through someone's door?

*FURIOUSLY FOLDS*

Oh, look! It's a cute little floating boat.

Now for the Lib Dems and their bright yellow pamphlets.

Wait...is it? NOOOOO!

IT'S A SCOTTIE DOG!

Bolitho told BuzzFeed News he got into origami when he was a child and later gave up his job as an accountant to take it up full-time.

"I realised I could put my skills to good use, and wherever origami was needed I’d be there. If I see a napkin badly folded or a shirt crumpled I could solve it."

For example, he picked up this fairly bland Labour leaflet for potential London mayor David Lammy.

And within seconds...

...it became an election rosette!!!

Bolitho said he was trying to make origami figures that matched the parties.

"Here's a frog for UKIP because they’re a little bit froggy, right?"

"Hopefully one day someone will kiss them. Then maybe they'll turn into princes."

He then turned his hand to a Conservative party leaflet – and looked excited.

He laughed to himself as he made a...

...TORY-ANNOSAURUS REX!

As he started folding the latest booklet from Labour's Chuka Umunna, Bolitho noted that politics can get a little bit depressing sometimes.

"Origami is a nice distraction and a useful hobby to forget politics," he said.

"The political leaflets are coming through your door at an increasing rate," he added as he turned Umunna's leaflet into a dragon. "So why not, on the route to bin, give it a bit of extra life?"

BLESS THIS BEAUTIFUL POLITICAL ART!
