21 Things To Marathon On Netflix During The Blizzard

Face it: you’re not going outside this weekend. Lucky for you, you have plenty to watch.

1. “House of Cards”

Netflix

Why you should watch it: Because your friends won’t stop bugging you until you get around to it. It’s also Netflix-exclusive — all episodes were released at once — which makes it ideal for binge-watching.
The time commitment: 11 hours

2. The original “House of Cards”

BBC

Why you should watch it: If you’re going to check out the American reboot, you might as well watch the British original. No Kevin Spacey, but lots more accents. It’s horrifying and compelling.
The time commitment: 11 hours

3. “American Horror Story”

FX

Why you should watch it: The first season of American Horror Story isn’t as polished as the second, but it’s still violent and perverse enough to entertain even the most ADD-addled TV viewers.
The time commitment: 9 hours

4. The Human Centipede series

IFC Films

Why you should watch it: Because you’ve always wanted to challenge yourself with two of the most disgusting films ever made. And it’ll make the snow seem like NBD. (Apologies in advance.)
The time commitment: 3 hours

5. “Pretty Little Liars”

ABC Family

Why you should watch it: Being snowed-in is the best excuse to dive into guilty pleasure series. Pretty Little Liars is basically as good as it gets — you’ll be gasping along with the characters.
The time commitment: 35 hours

6. “Portlandia”

IFC

Why you should watch it: Sketch comedy is a great way to pass the time, especially when it features top-of-their-game performers Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. (Trigger alert: it does snow in Portland.)
The time commitment: 6 hours

7. Stephen Sondheim musicals

PBS

Why you should watch them: Um, he’s the greatest composer and lyricist of all time? You can stream Into the Woods and Company, which are two of his greatest works. (Rent all the others for later.)
The time commitment: 5 hours

8. “Rocko’s Modern Life”

Nickelodeon

Why you should watch it: You’re looking for something a bit more lighthearted, and you’re a sucker for nostalgia. Who doesn’t want to spend the weekend watching hours and hours of cartoons?
The time commitment: 21 hours

9. “Parenthood”

NBC

Why you should watch it: Because nothing will make you feel warmer and safer than the Braverman clan. If your own family is too much to handle, let these people adopt you for the weekend.
The time commitment: 38 hours

10. The Hellraiser series

Dimension Films

Why you should watch it: Because you’ve been meaning to test your endurance. Believe me, after watching all nine Hellraiser movies, you’ll feel accomplished. And the blizzard will have passed!
The time commitment: 13.5 hours

11. “Raising Hope”

FOX

Why you should watch it: Because it’s one of those sitcoms you should be watching that you aren’t. It’s light and fun, and it’s just sweet enough to provide the comfort you’ll need to weather the storm.
The time commitment: 16 hours

12. “Damages”

FX

Why you should watch it: This highly addictive series will have you hooked from the first episode. Just to warn you, the final season is not yet available to stream and you need to see it immediately.
The time commitment: 41 hours

13. The Eating Out series

Ariztical Entertainment

Why you should watch it: You just want something fluffy and gay, and that’s exactly what you’re going to get. You can only stream the first three movies, but that’s plenty.
The time commitment: A little over 4 hours

14. “Twin Peaks”

CBS

Why you should watch it: Because you haven’t seen Twin Peaks yet, and that’s a goddamn travesty. Now you’ll finally get all those geeky references your friends make.
The time commitment: 25 hours

15. “The Wonder Years”

Warner Bros.

Why you should watch it: You want to laugh and cry and dream of a simpler, blizzard-free time. This show still holds up, but I should warn you, the music has been replaced. It’s kind of a bummer.
Time commitment: 44 hours

16. Wong Kar-Wai movies

USA Films

Why you should watch them: You’re snowed in all by yourself, and you want to feel extra empty inside. Check out In the Mood for Love, Happy Together, Fallen Angels, Days of Being Wild, and As Tears Go By.
The time commitment: 8 hours

17. “Cheers”

CBS

Why you should watch it: It’s one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Watch the show develop over 11 seasons. Then watch all 11 seasons of Frasier! I’m just saying, you’ll never need to find anything else to do.
The time commitment: 108 hours

18. “My Strange Addiction”

TLC

Why you should watch it: Because you’re feeling stir crazy, and you need to see people a little more unbalanced than you are. (Warning: not for the faint of heart. You don’t want to know what she’s drinking in that still.)
The time commitment: A little over 7 hours

19. The Oscar-nominated documentaries

IFC

Why you should watch them: You’re going to have to eventually. These are heavy but essential. Check out 5 Broken Cameras, How to Survive a Plague, and The Invisible War. (The other two aren’t streaming yet.)
The time commitment: 5 hours

20. “Star Trek: The Next Generation”

CBS

Why you should watch it: To boldly never leave your couch again. Look, you might as well nerd out and marathon as much of Star Trek: TNG as you can get through. What else do you have going on?
The time commitment: 136 hours

21. “Family Guy”

FOX

Why you should watch it: Sometimes it’s smart and funny, sometimes it’s dumb and funny. Either way, it’s a good show to devote your weekend to, especially if you plan on spending the blizzard very, very high.
The time commitment: 64 hours
