Here's a 1966 ad for Dormeyer Appliances, which implored housewives to cry — but just a little! — to get their way. True, I mean, when a new waffle grill is on the line, crying to get your way may seem like a reasonable tactic. But, inevitably, playing this card again on your husband for the Hurri-hot Cup and the automatic toaster can only brew resentment each time said husband begrudgingly schleps to the store, muttering about "damned coffee pots" under his breath. This ad is a textbook example of what not to do in your relationship. Oh, and sexism.
