Which Modern Mythological Creature Are You?

A bicorn can only be found at the half-moon every Leap Year, on the 29th of February. Or they’re all around us all the time and assumed to just be horses. Or they’re choosing between being a horse and being a zebra, because they can’t be both. Or they’re neither horse nor zebra, but a separate species entirely, which just wants to live its damn life and eat some flowers every once in a while. Christ.

The Bicorn

Sock monsters live — well, nobody knows quite where. Dark and warm places tend to be favorites, and due to their collecting habits, behind and under dryers are popular habitats. Sock monsters do not wish to cause harm and will steal but one sock at a time so the owner doesn’t feel sad about it, only mildly confused; the more patterned or exciting the sock, the more enthusiastic the sock monster will be at collecting it. Sock monsters will occasionally leave drawings as thank yous to the sock owners they collect from, which is honestly even more confusing. Many people just assume they have a very benign, artistic ghost.

The Giggles are tiny parasitic organisms that swarm in droves, but are usually invisible to the naked eye. A single Giggle is rare; they move in large packs in a kind of hive-mind. As they move over the host, they dine on microscopic bacteria; there are often so many that this roving buffet causes attacks of laughter in the host that are sometimes inappropriate. Attacks of the giggles are well documented in pop culture. It is believed that the subject of Hozier’s song “Take Me To Church” suffered from a brief affliction of the giggles, and another case is well-documented in the song “One Week” by the Barenaked Ladies.

A marmaid, similar to a mermaid, can be found in bars on certain evenings during the new, full, and harvest moons. Some believe she is the modern evolution of the historical Siren, as she is very alluring and enjoys luring wicked men to an early grave. No one can ever quite prove she was there at the time of the murder, but something terrible always comes out about the victim after his untimely (but somewhat less sad, given the circumstances) death.

The Marmaid

An Earworm is the larval stage of the Beatle, and like most youth, only has about half an idea of what’s going on at any given time. This is why it repeats itself so often, and why it can be an incredibly irritating pest to have around one’s home or garden. Though the Earworm is sometimes known to burrow into an individual’s ear canal, this is not as common as urban legend would have you believe. They communicate through sound patterns that they pick up from melodies around them, and repeat those melodies ad infinitum until they imprint on something else. An infestation of Earworms in a garden can be its own special hell, but even just one in your bedroom while you’re trying to sleep can be the worst.

The where-wolf transforms when it visits certain places at the right time. The time-and-place triggers for each where-wolf are different, which has, historically, led to some awkward bathroom breaks. Luckily, where-wolves are not vicious and have an uncanny knack for giving directions while transformed.
