annem11 a year agoMust be a slow news day. He posted this on his blog last September, and all of his requests seemed quite reasonable to me.
BTW, maybe it’s you. He gave me a VERY nice hug when I saw him last October. Perhaps because I asked him if it were okay before leaping upon him as I’ve seen some fans do, or maybe just because he likes me. -

They all seem very reasonable if you take the time to actually read the entire thing. However, bravo for taking his words out of context and making him seem like a jerk to fit your own agenda. Maybe you dislike him and want others to feel the same?

Ross M. a year agoThe problem here is that even though his requests may be reasonable he wrongly assumes that he is in a position to tell people how to think and/or behave. Human’s are notoriously stubborn even when authority figures try to dictate their behavior, and Alton Brown is certainly no authority figure. His best bet is to build up his own defenses against what he perceives as improper behavior, much how you and I know how to avoid crazy people on the train or other public places. He assumes he can just address his fans in a one-sided manner (him telling them what to do) but any halfway decent PR professional or publicist will tell you it’s a two way street.

GroovyMe a year agoApologies, I just read the whole fanifesto and I am going to have to agree with Alton. Seems to me he’s just really passionate about his job and the food network. I’ve always loved watching him, and, the grocery store that he frequents during his segments, is the same one my Aunt shops at and they have spoken with him many times and have never said a negative word about how he has behaved towards people.

Brian H. a year agoMost of these are pretty reasonable. Sometimes people get so wound up when meeting someone they see often and kind of lose their minds. I remember waiting to escort Harrison Ford. While he was eating, he got up to go to the restroom and a lady blocked him to get an autograph. He politely declined. The guy had to go.

Xavier Stagecoach a year agoIt’s a blog post, from almost a year ago, and it actually seems pretty reasonable…maybe take some time to read a few of the 1,200 words. “First, please know that I sincerely appreciate you. If you are a fan, I am beyond thrilled that you like my work. Rest assured, should the opportune arise, I will go out of my way to enhance your fan experience. I will autograph just about anything (read on), I will pose for pictures (as long as they’re respectfully tasteful), and will honestly talk with you without looking over your shoulder at the next person coming down the line, no matter how limited the time. And, I will bust my butt to make sure the television program you’re watching or book you’re reading is the best I can do and fairly priced. Now…”
