A Dad And His Son Are Using Puns To Make Each U.S. State Out Of Food

From Kaleifornia to the New Pork islands.

Artist and food blogger Chris Durso spends his free time sculpting each U.S. state out of food.

But it was his 8-year-old son, Cameron, who came up with the idea. Chris was sold after Cameron starting firing off accompanying puns like "Pork Lo Maine."

Last summer they began posting their punny creations to blog Foodiggity's Instagram page, starting with their home state, New Jersey.

The project is aptly called The Foodnited States of America.

Sometimes people accuse Durso of Photoshopping, but he actually makes each one using real ingredients and a set of state-themed cookie cutters, he told BuzzFeed News.

Some states are easy to cut, but others require more time and careful attention to detail.

"I don’t want natives to jump on me," Durso told BuzzFeed News. "I’ve gotten angry letters from Rhode Islanders saying I missed the inner channels. Come on, I cut your state out of a piece of ice cream."

After finishing each state, Durso and his son want to sell prints of a complete map and individual states.

"Hopefully as it progresses and we get toward the finishing line, I think [Cameron's] going to be really happy to see them all come together," Durso said. "Anytime you can get one of your kids involved with your work, it's pretty cool."
