Meet The First Transgender Model To Be Featured In "Vogue"

Last July, Pejić, who's modeled for both men's and women's brands, came out as transgender.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the love and support throughout the years,” she wrote on her Facebook page at the time. “You’ve all helped me through this journey and I have learned a lot and really come into my own and the response to today’s announcement truly overwhelmed me and reminds me of why I chose to do this publicly.”

Today she revealed that she's the newest face for the beauty brand Make Up For Ever.

Pejić's announcement followed the news that Clean & Clear chose transgender teen Jazz Jennings to head up its #SeeTheRealMe campaign.

Today Pejić also revealed that she's also featured in the new issue of Vogue — the first time a transgender model has ever garnered such an honor.

"If at the beginning of my career in the modeling industry or half way through it or even this time last year you told me that I would end up having a 4 page feature in AMERICAN VOGUE I would have probably told you 'oh I dunno about that!" said Peijic in her Instagram caption.

The model said that many times people told her "the chances of me ending up on these pages were slim to none. So you can only imagine what I’m feeling right now!”

The Vogue editorial also includes a brief interview with Pejić.

In the interview, Pejić confessed that some questioned her decision to pursue sexual reassignment surgery.

“There was definitely a lot of ‘Oh, you’re going to lose what’s special about you," she told Vogue. "You’re not going to be interesting anymore. There are loads of pretty girls out there,’” One agent reportedly told her, “It’s better to be androgynous than a tranny.”

But ultimately she doesn't let it get her down.

"Being known to the whole world with this transition, I thought, Who is ever going to love me? How am I going to have a relationship with a man if all of this is public?” she said. “Then I got to a place where I was like, ‘I’m successful and happy with what I’ve achieved. There’s nothing I should be ashamed of. You can take it or leave it.’ ”
