New York Jets Release Tim Tebow

"Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped."

The New York Jets have waived 25-year-old Tim Tebow, just one year after the high-profile, low-performing quarterback was brought on from the Denver Broncos for $4 million in salary and trade agreements.

    From the Jets' press release:

Tebow (6'3", 236/Florida/Jacksonville, FL) was acquired by the Jets in a trade on March 26, 2012 from Denver and saw action in 12 games this past season. Originally a first-round selection of the Broncos in 2010, Tebow has started 16 of the 35 games he has played. For his career, he completed 173-of-361 passes for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions for a 75.2 passer rating and added 989 yards and 12 touchdowns on 197 rushes.

"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," said Jets head coach Rex Ryan. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."

Tebow's release didn't exactly come as a surprise.
