Yahoo Sports Blog Went A Little Sexist On This One

Sexism, no matter how “minor” is wrong. The fact that some people here are trying to play it down and complaining that this is non-news-worthy are just contributing to the rising wave of sexism that has been going on these days. Demeaning and insulting women to any degree is just as bad as doing the same for people of different races or sexualities.
Just because it is an expression doesn’t mean it’s excusable or that it isn’t offensive; you can’t just eliminate the history of discrimination associated with a word just because we stop using it with the intention of offending or discriminating. I don’t necessarily think that the writer is sexist or trying to be demeaning; but that’s not what that phrase means now, and he or she should have been more conscious of it’s current meaning. And why does it being a blog excuse the use of the phrase? Sure, context is important, but it’s a blog from Yahoo!, a media institution, who probably pays the writer and gets profits from people reading the article, and who definitely should be more aware of these kinds of things. Also, why the hell am I making this kind of comment on Sports? Another reason Shift just fails.
