Joe Paterno On The NCAA Sanctions Against SMU In 1987
He’s right. It is unbelievable.
He’s right. It is unbelievable.
In college football states, football is god. Coaches are deities. People in charge of their beloved football teams are pure and incorruptible. My state is still talking about the one great football coach. They cut funding for everything before they cut funding for football. Football is a way of life and the cherished can do no wrong
@Drew and Gordy: I did undergrad at a state college where the football team was one of the main money-makers. Sixty mil is nothing to the football program (not the athletic program, the football program specifically). Additionally, a pathetic amount of the money these schools make actually goes toward education. I worked for the U’s telefund (we called alums to get funding for education), and my bosses made sure we knew everything about the financial aspect of the school.
On a related note, a depressingly large number of alums I called requesting assistance for our academic programs said something like, ‘I’ll give when the football team starts winning again!’ That’s nice, sir, but I’m calling on behalf of the English department. Most of those students are only aware of the football team because tailgating is the shizz.
